Dr Chandrix Dies edition by Christopher D Abbott Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I was not sure I would like it at first, but as I am an mystery fan, I thought I would try. What a pleasant surprise, I LOVED it. Wonderful characters and very interesting story line.
This book is better than the first. The characters take you away to another time as you try to solve the mystery with them. Another page turner that kept me reading and losing sleep. Very good story. I can't wait for the next one.
When I reviewed Sir Lawrence Dies, I gave the author, Mr. Christopher Abbott, 4 stars because “5 star perfection” was left for writers like HG Wells. After reading Doctor Chandrix Dies, I can say that Mr. Abbott is well on his way to becoming one of the best mystery writers of the day and that the second book in the “Dies” series deserves five stars! Written before Sir Lawrence at the time when Straay and Drake first meet, you are taken on a fun thrill ride including political espionage, conspiracy theories and of course murder. Along with trying to figure out whodunit and why, you instantly want to keep reading just to find out what happens with Straay and Drake’s relationship. I totally loved this book and highly recommend it. Can’t wait for more!!!!!!
Christopher Abbot does it again with Dr. Chandrix Dies. It is a prequel to the great Sir Laurence dies which I thoroughly enjoyed. This book is just as fascinating as the first and keeps you on the edge of your seat. I could not put the book down. I really do like Dr. Staay as the criminal physiologist. He is very smart and can profile the killer and the victim quickly and correctly. There are a lot of people in this book that I recognize from the first book and Mr. Abbot weaves their stories into this novel nicely. I can't wait for the third in this series. I highly recommend this book.
Anglophiles and period mystery lovers should enjoy Christopher D. Abbott’s Dr. Chandrix Dies. Each time I dipped into it for a read, I felt as if I were settling into a leather wing chair with a coal fire hissing on the grate. There were many times during the interchanges between main characters Drake and Straay that gave me pleasure, moments of dry British humor or charm. The mystery itself is good, and I often sensed the influence of Agatha Christie and Dr. Who as it unfolded. The surprises were welcome. I look forward to the next book in Abbott’s trilogy.
Book 2 of the 'Dies Trilogy'
A prequel to Sir Laurence Dies by upcoming author Christopher D Abbott, This novel brings us back to the time when Drake and Straay first meet, in a case that defies imagination for it's cruel series of events. A first class murder mystery that reminded me of the old 1930's movies about a British detective known as the Falcon, I'm not sure why, but it does, and it's none the worse for it to be honest, I love a good old period mystery novel.
I do think that as Chris progresses as an author the already high quality of his work has improved, the syntax is spot on, the detail in the psychological thought processes superb, and the machinations of those involved in the story create a complex web that Chris manages to tie together very well indeed, as with all good mysteries, there are red herrings, leading you to think you know who and why and when Chris then leads you down the path towards the true culprit, his reasoning for doing so explains the red herrings and you can see and understand why they were placed there.
I also think that because of Chris's English background he has a superb grasp of the language of the time, something a lot of US authors at times struggle with, it's a nuance of the heritage I imagine, but if fully realized it's a fantastic tool to draw the reader into the story.
I look for a few things in a novel to make it enjoyable for me, believability, accuracy, flow and whether I think it's a page turner or not, and I am very happy to say that Dr Chandrix Dies, has all of these to an exceptionally high degree.
I am looking forward to Chris's next outing for Dr Straay with baited breath.
the second book in the "DIES" trilogy is well written with a strong plot and interesting list of suspects. I look fore ward to the last book in the series.
These are very interesting with the main character rather enigmatic. The mysteries are intriguing.
